Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 1, 2026 · Last Updated: January 1, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how AlertHound, Inc. (“AlertHound,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website, applications, and services (collectively, the “Services”).

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly: When you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and password (stored as a salted hash). If you subscribe to a paid plan, we collect billing information, which is processed by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not store full credit card numbers.

Alert configuration data: Keywords, price ranges, location preferences, and platform selections you configure are stored to operate the alert service.

Usage data: We automatically collect information about how you use the Services, including pages viewed, alerts created, notifications opened, and features used. This data is pseudonymized and used to improve the product.

Device and log data: We collect IP addresses, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and crash reports. IP addresses may be used for fraud prevention and are not shared with advertisers.

Communications: If you contact our support team, we retain those communications to resolve your issue and improve our services.

eBay OAuth tokens: If you connect your eBay account to use the auction sniping feature, we receive and store an OAuth access token issued by eBay. This token is encrypted at rest using AES-256 and is used solely to place bids on your behalf. We do not store your eBay password. You can revoke AlertHound's eBay access at any time from your eBay account settings or from your AlertHound account settings, which will immediately invalidate the stored token.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Services
  • Deliver alert notifications via email, push, or SMS
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Respond to support requests and inquiries
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve features and performance
  • Send product updates and transactional emails (you can opt out of marketing emails)
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising targeting on other platforms.

3. How We Share Your Information

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

Service providers: We use third-party vendors to help operate the Services (e.g., Stripe for payments, AWS for infrastructure, SendGrid for email delivery, Twilio for SMS). These vendors are contractually bound to use your data only as instructed and to maintain appropriate security.

Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or government request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you via email and/or prominent notice on our site before such a transfer occurs.

With your consent: We may share information in other circumstances with your explicit consent.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain sessions, remember preferences, and understand how users interact with the Services.

Essential cookies: Required to operate the Services (authentication, session management). Cannot be disabled.

Analytics cookies: Used to understand aggregate usage patterns (e.g., which features are most used). We use privacy-preserving analytics tools that do not build cross-site profiles. You can opt out via our cookie preference center.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or participate in ad networks.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data and alert configurations for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance purposes (typically up to 7 years for billing records).

Alert match history is retained according to your plan (7 days on Free, 90 days on Starter, unlimited on Pro). You can export or delete your history at any time from your account settings.

Right to delete: You have the right to request deletion of your account and all associated personal data. To delete your account, visit your account settings and select “Delete Account,” or contact us at privacy@alerthound.io. Upon deletion, we will remove your profile, alert configurations, saved searches, and eBay OAuth tokens within 30 days. Retained billing records are anonymized and cannot be linked back to you.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements).
  • Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to certain uses of your data.
  • Opt-out of marketing emails: Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or update your notification preferences in your account settings.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest and in transit (TLS 1.3), salted password hashing (bcrypt), rate limiting, and regular security audits. Access to production data is limited to authorized personnel on a need-to-know basis.

8. Children's Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will promptly delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. International Data Transfers

AlertHound is based in the United States. If you are accessing the Services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Services, you consent to such transfers.

For transfers from the European Economic Area, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as the legal mechanism for such transfers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice in the Services at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
